It seems like an age has gone by since I was last able to work on my little basket quilt. You see, I made the pieces from scraps of fabric. I had about a yard of this homespun gingham that I had bought at wal-mart years ago.I made a short 1914 afternoon dress from it, and it shrunk in the wash, so I gave it to Mrs. G's Daughter Kate, who looks absolutely fabulous in it. :D
I knew when I began this quilt that I wouldn't have enough to make the whole quilt, but I plowed on ahead instead. But I KNEW that Wal-mart would have more. They only have a few bolts of "Homespun" material, a black, a blue, a green, and my marooney red. So when I finished all the pieces I returned to Wal-mart to get more. I grabbed the red, bought everything on the roll (about 2 1/2 yards) and happily toted it home.
But when I got here, even in my dim lighting I realized... Wal-mart had changed their dyes.... I thought about going ahead with it, but the hues in these two reds were just too atrocious when paired.

So, as all seamstresses know, when a project becomes frustrating, set it aside, and come back later.
It's only been recently that I have been able to go to Jo-Ann fabrics (Forget Wal-mart!!) and lay a quilt piece on all their red homespuns. Though they didn't have an exact match, they had enough variety for me to be able to find something close. It does have a smaller check, but I think it rounds out the pattern very well!
I'm so excited to be able to start on it again! I've loved this quilt from the moment I saw it, and I can't wait to see it on one of the beds in the house.
I have one strip done, and another that's ready to put together.

Aww! It seems like ages since I've heard anything about how this quilt was coming along! Thanks for the wonderful update, I love seeing it, and hearing about prgress on it, it's so beautiful, you quilt so well!
I'm glad it's almost all ready to put together, hopefully it'll be smooth with no more mishaps and catastrophes and such :) I can't wait to see the finished results either so I hope it's done soon!
From the pictures I can't tell you used two differnt colors of red so you're pretty stinkin' close! and Oh goodness I'm not sure about the fabulous looking part in that little dress but I certainy FEEL fabulous in it :) It's so special to me and really truly is a wonderful dress despite it's shrinking.. I'm actually glad it did or else how would I had ever wound up with it in my possession? right. I wouln't have, so lucky for me it shrunk! and you know I'm not a red person but both the dress and this quilt are just beautiful, simple and tastful and lovely!
hopefully I can see this quilt in person before I'm too much older, I'd sure like to!
I haven't stopped talking about all the other ones you made that I saw last year lol
anyhow, keep me posted oon how it's coming along, I'm so glad you picked it back up :)

I agree! And I have three rows together now, so it's chugging right along. :D
You know, there's this saying the french have, something about if a woman FEELS beautiful, she is. So it doesn't matter what you really look like, so long as it FEELS pretty. :D
(BTW I'm glad it shrunk too! It looks 100x better on you. :D
