Alas 18 years is a short time to live among such excellent and admirable hobbits.

Yes as of tomorrow I will have lived on this crazy planet 18 years. There's so much to say about it... and yet nothing... so I won't go on.

Today was a day full of amazement!

I walked down to the mill to see what Dad was doing. He wasn't down there so I walked back toward the house. As I did I looked up, and there were FIVE hawks! (Wich just so happen to be a favorite of mine. :D) I was so excited! I've seen four in one day before, but that was on a drive and they were spaced out over miles.

According to the celts when you saw a hawk it meant there was something in your life coming up that you would really have to concentrate on, you know a crossroads.... See my first statement..

Dad seems to think they were a family group and the Babies hadn't left yet... I'm not sure.

But anyways Once I got to the house I heard him pull in, so I walked back down... mostly to tell him about the hawks. :D

As I did I saw another, so I grabbed the binoculars out of the truck to look at it. (It may have been from the same group so I'm not counting it as another.)

On a lark, after it had flown out of site, I kept looking at the other flying objects in the sky at the time. I saw what I thought were buzzards, but when dad looked at them he noticed one had a white tail! (So I'm thinking new breed of buzzard lol) As we watched the bird suddenlt folded up it's wings and nose dived out of site!

Sometime in the past year, Dolly parton released a few eagles in our area... this was one!So Not only did I see 5 (or 6) hawks today, I saw two eagles! How exciting was that!!!

pics not mine... still no camera...

As American as Apple cake!

I was so excited when Emily over at Homemaking pen friends suggested a recipe exchange. The wonderful "Hip chick" Posted about this lovely Apple cake!

I then realized I had a whole bag of apples in the crisper drawer! I decided to do this one gluten free and not torture poor Daddy, who's alergic. :D So He had some "Millet" Grain down in the mill unground. I knew I couldn't wait on him to grind it so I took down our old coffee grinder and set to work. A few hours later I had just enough!

I had to adjust the recipe having no orange juice or the right pan... and in the end I still used too much baking powder... I'm sure there's still bits of it on the bottom of the oven.. and instead of layering the batter with the apples I simply lined one apple instead of six on top.

The flour was too thick and a little grainy, but all in all it turned out well! and Dad said that if he ground it in the big mill it would fix the graininess.

After my cake was done I did some old fashioned, walk to the neighbor's visiting. Mom had already gone over there. It's such a beautiful walk back to my friend's. Through wood and over field kind of thing. And the weather was GORGEOUS!

As I walked up the hill I was happy to see that mom was still there. but as I neared, she pulled out and left! But! happily though after a short respite, some water and a phone call, I walked back, further enjoying this beautiful fall day!

Later, I even got to walk my friend back home. So I had a wonderful lovely, productive day!

*Taps foot* Now I need my vest pattern. :D

A wonderful Sunday!

Okay well today was great, which made my rocky start weekend muuuuch better.

I didn't do much all day, but tonight was singing service at church. For some reason I was soooo nervous! Maybe it was because I was going to talk before hand.

I was Sang "It is well with my soul" And told the story about the man who wrote it (Because I'm tired I'm only gonna say it can be found on Wikipedia)

But as I was in the choir, one girl who seems to be the only other singer among the youth of the church, (And yes I'm still considered youth for some odd reason) was looking for someone to sing with her. We ended up singing "Without him" And I sang Harmony in public for the first time... ahhh! it felt good! I've been practicing it for so long! I just never had found anyone with strong enough Melody to be able to sing Harmony with them.

Anyways long story short, we're going to sing "Sweet hour of prayer" on Old timer's day in two weeks. I'm excited!

Oh! And I also got my nighty done! Yaaaaay! okay well all but the waistband... and I don't have ribbon for it yet. But it's done! even the embroidery on the front!

So now I just have to bide my time until my vest pattern comes in... *Taps foot*

Oh well! We'll get there! one project at a time, eh?

Until next time!

ps, I've got pictures of what I was wearing tonight, (Although the pictures were taken friday night at my friend's just after a harvest festival at our old school.) I Fear I was overdressed Friday night, but hey! I had people to impress. :D

Fall is in the air! And so is Flour *Cough*

Well these are times I reallllly need a camera, but hopefully I'll get one for my birthday. (whether I buy it or someone else does. :D)

but anyways, Yesterday my dad had to grind some flour. We own a grist mill and general store that is well... not open... But anyways, my dad is allergic to flour so he couldn't be around it. So mom and I went down to help. Because we couldn't contaminate the whole system with flour we had to sift it by hand. So I put on and old t-shirt and an apron (yes over my jeans. :D) and went down to help.

I had so much fun! It's strange what I take joy in! The steady beat of the mill at work, and the gentle monotony of the sifter. Being covered in flour from head to toe. :D It's a good flour, it's not whole wheat but it's not sifted within an inch of it's life. :D

Also my Aunt went ahead and ordered the other dress, so I'll have both these patterns. :D And! I'm almost done with my nighty! I have to hem the bottom and put the bias on the top and embroider the front. (sounds like a lot but it's not. :D)

Happy Hobbit Day!!!

Well I had to pacify the nerdy side of me and mention that today is the birthday of both Frodo and Bilbo from "The Lord of the Rings"

This event was what began the books, Bilbo's 111 and Frodo's Coming of age at 33.

Among us "Ringers" This day is known as "Hobbit day" A day to put on the pointed ears and furry feet and celebrate all things "Middle earth"

Ehem unfortunately I forgot until this very moment that it was in fact September 22... Though I did go in to town today. My Aunt had my pattern and I had her order a vest pattern for me to use to complete my Anne of Green Gables outfit.

I then went to a little Odd shop called "The Common Good" Which is in a little town house and has all sorts of Vintage and Victorian items. Unfortunately nothing reached out and grabbed me today. Last time I was there I bought a hat. (Which I wish I could take a picture but I don't have a camera...)

Also once I got home I found out my aunt had bought the 1910 tea dress instead of the 1914 afternoon dress. sooo, on that front I'm delayed for a while... But it'll give me a chance to finish my nighty. :D (Which once again I wish I could take a picture of)

Well anyways I hope you all have a blessed Hobbit Day!
God Bless!

My dear Bagginses and Boffins, Tooks and Brandybucks, Grubbs, Chubbs, Hornblowers, Bolgers, Bracegirdles and Proudfoots. Today is my 111th birthday! Alas, eleventy-one years is far too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable hobbits. I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. I, uh, I h-have things to do. I regret to announce this is the end. I am going now. I bid you all a very fond farewell. Goodbye.

The above is Bilbo's speech from FotR
Not mine, belongs to PJ and Tolkien.
Edited to fix pictures

Fluttery Red Scarf

*looks back over old posts*

I wasn't going to rant here! That's what the other blog's for! but oh well...

Needless to say this has been a difficult weekend. And I think I and my friends are linked somehow. We all had rough weekends. Just kinda crashed and were totally unable to help each other.

So anyways. I won't go into details. Just keep me in your prayers.

But! As I was at my friend's this weekend (we didn't go camping, because it rained, but I still went to her house for the night.) I did get to use her camera.
While I was waiting to be able to start my big projects, I sat down with some extra yarn and made a scarf. The yarn was a gift and it's the scratchy sparkly fluffy kind that I'm not really crazy about, so I was thinking it would be the first Item in my Etsy... as soon as I get one. But as I went on it got better and better, and now I really kind of like it and... I think it's going to be the first new item in my winter wardrobe...It's super long! Tied up a little it still reaches my knees! But I made it the length of a store bought scarf I already had. But anyways, I don't have a picture of it on, but here it is!!

A Slight Pause

Well A sad thing that goes along with losing my job is, that now that I'm not living part time with my aunt, I no longer have fast cable internet.

So I came home with high hopes of setting up our DSL and using my fast little computer in the mean time... unfortunately I can't get the DSL hooked up and my loverly little computer will no longer connect to the internet... for unknown reasons. So at the moment I'm using my dad's computer... which not only is uber slow.. it is currently driving me crazy with it's hard to use letter sticking keyboard. (My mom compared it to using an old flip letter typewriter.. But I just so happen to own and love my old Flip letter typewriter.. and it's nothing like this) This means please don't mind any spelling errors that may occur!

So I'm here and will be here! There's just nothing going on in my life to note. (though I will be going camping with a friend this weekend as kind of a "farewell summer" "Welcome Fall" getaway) So maybe I'll get something by then and be able to post.

Oh! I just remembered something.. I just finished "Age of innocence" by Edith Wharton eh it's okay. it gives good insight on the times.. though a little early for my interests. (I like Edwardian times better) But I wasn't crazy about the story. I was glad he stayed with his wife... but sad he didn't end up with Ellen in the end.

But anyhoo, it's getting late and I'm tired and well slightly dizzy, so I'll talk to ya'll later!

Take care and God Bless!!

A Light in the Tunnel!

Well I am excited beyond all reasoning! Even with a cold...

We have our Reservations for the Biltmore trip!!!

They'll be at the Squire watkins inn in the Daisy room. Isn't it Fantastic!!!!

I'm so awefully excited I can hardly breathe! (and not just because of a stuffy nose!) This month is absolutely gonna fly by!

But it will be full of wonderfull project goodies for my blog! *yay!* One as I have mentioned before is The S&S 1914 afternoon dress, modernized. The second will be this nightgown for my bestie. :D Another will be Simplicity "5188" (I already have this pattern and have made it once)

And I'd like to make another matching set of dresses for us to wear on sunday maybe something to wear on friday too. :D

I'm still soooooo excited!! I can't settle down and I have to... so I guess I'll just go get another cup of hot tea and put on the Animated Robin Hood... (Childhood tradition don't ask)

Somewhere He Opens a Window.

Well I am sad to say I just lost my job. Luckily it wasn't a good job in the first place. And as I've said in several places now, You're never unemployed when you're doing God's work. So this door may be closed, but there's plenty of open windows with pretty views.

I'm going to take this opportunity to work on my music. Get out my guitar and just write! And from there, I'll relax during these busy fall months. Do some of the projects I've been wanting to do. And finally I'll prepare for my big trip at the end of October.

I will keep looking for work though, And as I said, there are plenty of opportunities. If not I'll find a sidewalk somewhere and sit down with my guitar and open the case!

In any event, I have ordered my pattern from S&S and it is on it's way. I'm so excited! And now I have time to go looking for material. Material that's like I want, and not Wal-mart Brand.

So anyways, keep me in your prayers in this tough time. And even though it may be tough I'll come through. If God brings you to it, he'll bring you through it. And I'm confident he has a plan and a much better place for me.

Bowing?

This is my random post for the day. (yes this is the way my mind moves.)

Bowing: it was Elegant, it was Romantic, it was suave. Now we immediately hug/ kiss total strangers. (Not that that's always a bad thing :D)

But the Bow and the curtsy have become virtually extinct! The Muslims bow, and the orientals bow, why don't we? Sometimes we bow when Contra dancing, and maybe other dancing.

And what about the curtsy? A sign of respect to elders and betters. Do we curtsy to the President? No, we hug him and shake his hand. (Not to mention nervously prattle on while shaking and sweating)

But what happened to these commodities of everyday society? It was only 200 years ago and less that we used them.

And just imagine how much deeper Love would be, and how much longer marriages would last if you weren't allowed to touch them but in dance until after you were engaged! And you couldn't kiss until the day you married!

This is just something to make you think. Think how much better things would be if we abode by Regency etiquette!
And that's my thought for today. I finished my previous quilt (Pics on the way) it's blue and white checkered. It also looks great on my bed :D
Well until next time!
Chou!

I'm here!!

Okay I'm here! I promise! I haven't forgotten you. I've been at my aunt's and well since I left all my thread at home I wasn't able to work on it! So I lugged the sewing machine and the cutting board and and well everything over here... and didn't do ANYTHING but measure the bed...

But I'm still working on it! Sadly enough I'm already thinking about my next project... Old timer's day at my church is October 11 and I'd like to make a vest for my "Anne" outfit. I think it would really complete it. Either that or I'd like to make an exact replica of the outfit she wears in the beginning of the movie. It looks pretty simple. I just use the patterns I already have. The top I'd have to make backwards so it opens in the front and not the back. That's in a white, or off white, with yellow polka dots. Then the skirt I'd just put three big pleats near the hem, that's in a plain brown. and finally the vest, which is a brown plaid.

And also I'm going to Biltmore estate in late October and I'd like to make Sense and Sensibility's 1914 afternoon dress. But only if my Best friend will wear one too :D

So I'll get back to you later with updates. :D Maybe I'll have the top done soon... maybe

BYE!!!

Figured it out!!

Okay so as my title implies, I figured it out! So this will be my vintage and project blog and the other my personal blog. I can't wait to get started! I'll post later today on my latest project which is a quilt for my bedroom at my Aunts. We're decorating it in the "Shabby Chic" style.

Alright fine! I'll post it now!

So I'm sewing it by machine, I know out of my ordinary right? Well I want it done and I don't want to spend forever on it. I'm quilting it by hand though.

I got the pattern Idea from a book in a local sewing shop, but the book was an outrageous! price! So I memorized the pattern and had my aunt pick out the fabric. It's a strip quilt, which is how I intend to get it done quickly. The big squares are 1'X1' And the strips are just over 2" wide. So to get the strips I set my fabric on the 2" line on my rotary board and simply cut it even with the edge of the board along the whole length of the fabric. (I'll get pics of it soon)

The squares I just cut manually, before I though I could have cut it in strips as well. Anyhoo there it is!
